I married Jack Ware (SHS Class of 59) Dec of ’62. He was a housemover and I was working at Sears.
He joined the USAF in April of ’63 and we started a career that would last until 1979.
Our elder daughter, Traci, was born in Panama City, R.de.P., in 1967 and our younger daughter, Susan,
was born at Mather AFB in Sacramento in 1977. Jack retired from the Air Force in August of 1979 and
we moved to a vineyard in Fowler CA. We bought a second vineyard and grew grapes for Sun-Maid raisins.
While there, Jack attended Fresno State, obtained a degree in viticulture and I spent my time with our
daughters and taught quilting. We sold the vineyards in 1983 so we could move back to OR and bought
a 50 acre Hazelnut farm near Estacada. We left that in 1985 when Jack took a job with USDA and we moved
to Ashland, OR. I began college at Southern Oregon University and received my BA in 1989 and my MBA in
1990. In 1991 I became an IRS Agent and stayed with it until I took an early retirement in 2003 so that
I could accept a position with the American Samoan Government as a tax consultant. I worked and played
in AS and the South Pacific for a couple of years. I retired from work completely in 2005 and now I
spend my time enjoying life to the fullest. I am a member of the American Hiking Society and this year
I went on three volunteer vacations building/repairing trails in the San Juan Islands, on Mt. Baker, and
then to the Eagle Cap Wilderness in the Wallawas where I backpacked, worked with mules and hiked to the
top of Eagle Cap. I travel to Hawaii whenever possible so I can surf, snorkel, snuba, scuba and relax.
I’ve managed 3 trips so far this year and we have a fourth scheduled for Dec. where we will celebrate our
45th anniversary. When I’m not traveling I make quilts, work in my yard in Ashland and volunteer with
AARP filing electronic returns for elderly and low income people. I’m very fortunate to have my elder
daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons living right next door. My younger daughter lives in Seattle
and works at Microsoft. I’ve had a wonderful life so far and I intend to continue to enjoy it to the
fullest as long as I can.
